Environmental attorney to address 'lethal sound'
Attorney Joel Reynolds of the National Resources Defense Council is due at UC Davis on Oct. 2 to give a talk titled "Lethal Sound: Submarines, Sonar and the Death of Whales." The event is free and open to the public.
Since 1994, Renolds has filed a series of lawsuits challenging Navy sonar activities, saying the high-intensity sound threatens marine mammals and other marine species. Reynolds is senior attorney for the NRDC and director of the council's Marine Mammal Protection Project.
His UC Davis visit is sponsored by the John Muir Institute of the Environment and the Environmental Law Society, a forum for students at the UC Davis School of Law.
Organizers said Reynolds will speak from 5 to 6 p.m. in the AGR Room at the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center, and a reception will take place from 6 to 7 p.m.
